Nigerians, according to President Muhammadu Buhari, should farm what they eat or go hungry. Nigerians have no reason to complain about hunger.
He explained that the decision to ban rice imports was made because of his position.
Despite the floods that have affected farming communities, the president told Tambarin Hausa TV that Nigeria can still feed itself.
Buhari claimed that his government’s decision to ban rice imports had resulted in rice farming.
“I took that decision to stop rice importation and said we should farm what we eat or die of hunger,” Buhari said.
“I asked, ‘What reason does a Nigerian have to say he’s hungry when we have farmland and God has blessed us with rain?’
If you If you’re hungry, go to the farm. I’m aware that floods have devastated some farmlands this season, but we’re still selling Nigerian rice and can feed ourselves.”
