JUST-IN: Federal Gov’t Retires Immigration Boss Jere

148

The interim Comptroller-General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr. Isah Jere Idris, has retired under President Muhammadu Buhari.

This came after his original extended one-year term expired and various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) caused a stink by urging the Presidency not to give Jere another chance to transfer his office’s responsibilities to the Service’s highest-ranking official while waiting for the appointment of a substantive CG of Immigration.

Just before his retirement in April 2022, Mr. Isah Jere Idris was appointed in an acting role, however he received a one-year extension to his term.

On April 24, 2023, the extended term will automatically expire.

The document, which was received by LEADERSHIP and was sent to Jere, revealed the development. It was a confidential notification of one year term extension expiry communication.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board secretary, Obasi Edozie Edmond, signed the document on April 17, 2023, at the request of the board chairman, Interior Minister Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, with the code number CDCFIB/APPT.CG&DCG/61/VOL.IV/74. Jere is the target of the retirement notice.
