Rasaq Kareem, a senior lecturer who is 47 years old, was charged on Friday, February 3, at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates Court for allegedly abusing a pupil sexually. Kareem, who resides in Agege, Lagos, was accused of sexual assault by the police. The defendant committed the offence on November 22, 2022 at the Lagos State Science and Technology, Ikorodu, Lagos, according to the prosecution’s attorney, ASP Raji Akeem. When the 19-year-old complainant went to the defendant’s office to turn in an assignment, the door was locked, according to Mr. Akeem. According to the authorities, the defendant tried to strip the woman of her clothing, and when she refused, he allegedly pushed her hands on his private parts. Additionally, Akeem claimed that the accused touched the woman’s breast. The offence, he claimed, violated the rules of Lagos State’s 2015 Criminal Law’s Section 264. The accused entered a not-guilty plea to the accusation. The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N300,000 with two sureties in the same amount by Chief Magistrate B. O. Osunsanmi. In order to obtain legal counsel from the office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Osunsanmi postponed the case to March 16.
