His Excellency Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State, engaged in strategic diplomatic discussions with the South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, H. E. Vice Admiral (rtd.) KIM Pankyu, at the Korean Embassy in Abuja. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring opportunities for mutual growth and development.
During the engagement, key points discussed included the importance of strengthening ties in trade, investment, and cultural exchange between Benue State and South Korea. Governor Alia highlighted potential partnerships in agriculture, technology, and infrastructure, showcasing Benue State as a favorable investment destination.
Governor Alia also sought support for a specialized bank aimed at driving agricultural and technological development in Benue State, and requested collaboration on renewable energy, agriculture mechanization, and ICT. Both parties explored programs to enhance understanding and educational quality, including initiatives such as smart schools. Training programs for Benue State’s workforce in areas of South Korean expertise were also discussed to enhance skills and knowledge transfer.
In response, Ambassador KIM Pankyu expressed excitement at the prospect of collaborating with Benue State, acknowledging its significance as a sub-national entity in Nigeria. He agreed that the areas of collaboration align with how the Government of Korea seeks to support Nigeria and promised to reciprocate the visit and kind gesture of Governor Alia.
The meeting was characterized by an exchange of cultural ideas and technical inputs. Governor Alia was accompanied by key officials, including Dr. Emmanuel Change, Principal Private Secretary; Hon Frederick Ikyaan, Hon Commissioner of Education; Dr. Grace Adagba, Chairman of SUBEB; Dr. Terna Francis, DG Benue Education Quality Assurance; Leo-Angelo Viashima, Director General, Benue State Bureau for International Cooperation and Development; Denen Aondoakaa, PSA to Gov Alia on the Delivery Team; Solomon Iorpev, Technical Adviser on Media and Communications; and Raymond Asemakaha, MD/CEO Benue Investment and Property Development.
The meeting concluded with a reiteration of commitment from both parties to enhance cooperation and partnership for mutual benefit and prosperity.
